Someone gave me a photo they took of me while I was out photographing birds. This is my camera and lens that I use for my bird photography. It is set up to be equivalent to 850mm but I can increase it to 1000mm.

I specialise in Photographing birds in their natural environment. To date I have photographed over 450 Australian species. If you like to view great bird shots please visit my site. I also like to photograph Landscape scenes but this is my second choice. I love nature and love to see and capture it when it is living free.

Holey Moley Alwyn…. So this is how you get your great bird shots!!! That is certainly an impressive piece (or rather, pieces) of gear! But I’m with you, I just love to photograph birds and to be out in nature observing them!

  • Thanks Barbie. Yes the only problem is thew weight, it gets very heavy. Sorry about the late reply but I am home again now and have to catch up on many things including my RB replies.

That’s for BIG boys, pleased it’s a Nikon, so to get 1000mm please explain.
    Tx

  • Thanks Warren. It is a 500mm lens and I use a 1.7 or 2 times tele-convertor which gives me 850mm or 1000mm depending on which tele-convertor I use. Yes all my equipment is Nikon.

Hmmm … OK looks like I’m going to be the first so I’ll admit it….. I now have lens envy :)

  • Thanks Jordy. Yes it is a beautiful lens but the weight is a disadvantage that I am happy to put up with. Sorry about the late reply but I am home again now and have to catch up on many things including my RB replies.

    WOW I wish

  • Thanks John. Yes great when the birds are still but too heavy for flight shots that you manage to capture so beautifully. Thanks for the comments

Very impressive! Do you pack that big boy in to wilderness sites or do you choose sites that are more accessible by vehicle? Sandy

  • Hi Sandy. I will cover a couple of kilometers with it but it does get heavy. The biggest problem is the vegetation and getting the tripod legs caught up. I have a good four wheel drive that gets me close to where I want to go in most cases. Sorry about the late reply but I am home again now and have to catch up on many things including my RB replies.

Hahaha! Yes I only got asked two days ago by Al how long your lens was and now he can see it for himself! :) How are you bud? Having a great time up north? Will catch you soon.

    Gabe :)

  • Hi Mate. Thought I would post this shot and let people know what I am using. Yes back home again. Have been out to work again this week. Had a great trip and got some great shots. I am out your way at the end of October so will look you up. All the best and stay safe.
