Little Corella taken near Carnarvon WA.by Alwyn Simple
This shot was taken from the car (Parked beside the road) as I drove south from Carnarvon. The Corellas were eating the small melons that grow wild in any sandy part of Australia. They were picking them from the vine and carrying them up into this tree to eat them. I was hoping to capture the Western Corella but never saw any of these that I could distinguish on my trip.
Great capture never seen them eating the melons usually ripping tree’s to bits
Thanks Bobby. Yes I have seen it before. They go mainly for the seeds. This is the first time I have seen them picking them and taking them up to the trees. Have a nice day.
Great shot Alwyn. A bit of trivia for you Mate. Did you know that these cockies and parrots are all left handed. They always hold things in the left hand / claw. I’ve took notice since I was told and it seems to be correct.
Many thanks Al for the comment and the trivia. I was going through shots last night for the Parrot Society and I wanted a shot of Major Mitchell’s. I did find the exception. I have a shot with two birds claw feeding and one is R/H and one is L/H. So i guess they are like people, there is always an odd ball out. Will admit most are using their left claw. – Have a great day.
Well done Alwyn, are you tripping around at the moment
Thanks John. Have been in WA for a month but I am home at the moment before heading for Nth Qld in Mid July. Will then spend two mths coming back through western Qld.

What wonderful timing Alwyn and well spotting! :) It’s a beautiful photo! :) The melon makes it look interesting. I first thought it was an apple!
Gabe :)
Thanks Gabe. Yes they were into the melons. I know that they eat the seeds but I do not know if they eat the flesh.
