Spotted Catbird - Paluma by

Called a Catbird because it sounds like a cat when it calls. It lives in the tropical forests of North Queensland. It is not one of our most beautiful birds but it is an important member of Australia’s Bird family.

A super catch Alwyn. Everytime we go into the rainforest, west of the Gold Coast, we always hear them ( the green) and sometimes see them, but never close enough for a picture. The same applies to the Paradise Riflebird. It’s nice to hear them though, at least they are about :) Alan

  • Thanks Alan, I find these very slightly easier to get than the Green Catbird. I do have a photo of the green but not a good one. This shot was taken where there were two parent birds and a young one. They were still feeding the young one so I set up on it and they came to me.
The Paradise Riflebird is the only riflebird that I still have to get. I have seen them but have not cracked a photo of one yet. They get up high in the foliage where it is impossible to get a shot of them.

Great shot Mate. It’s underside is a bit like the female bower bird.

  • Thanks Al. Yes I believe that they are related to the Bowerbirds.
