OK, I admit it… I was reminded (briefly) of that Diane Keaton/Richard Gere movie called Looking for Mr. Goodbar after reading a little bit of history on bluebirds in Wikipedia… although, their story isn’t about abuse in any way. The deal with the bluebird is, the male tends to be the most vibrant and is the one who starts a nest before beginning his ritual to attract a female to come and mate with him. Mr. Bluebird will flap his beautiful wings and sing sweet songs in hopes of attracting his love interest… The little fella in my painting is looking for his Mrs. Bluebird… but he just wants to serenade her into a life of love!

This mixed media collage painting was made with Intense pencils, music tissue paper, dry wall tape, acrylic, and ink on heavyweight Strathmore Acrylic (linen finish) paper.

I’m an abstract-expressionist painter… a mixed media, encaustic, collage artist who uses a non-objective, emotive style of creative expression and visual messaging. I create to survive, to LIVE with more JOY and less pain. ART (plus faith in God) is what sustains me.

Beautiful work Angela – you are on a creative roll at the moment!

  • Thanks so much, Terri! Really, it’s more a result of the process I adopted after I took a DVD workshop by Sherrill Kahn than being on a creative roll… she teaches you how to work on multiple projects all of the time… as a result, you have less waste and always have the beginnings of new works ready for those days when you’re inspired to bring them to life. :) Of course, since I paint every day, I have a huge stash of backgrounds and partial paintings. Loui Jover told me (a few weeks ago) that not everything needs all the texture and color I normally add so I’ve started looking for pieces I could claim as finished without doing much more work on them. Thus it appears as if I’ve been creating up a storm lately… but really it’s about my normal workload. All this shared, I’m grateful for your comments and your visits… you know that, right? :)

I still reckon you are one a roll Ms Walker! What a great way to use up the paint left over on the pallette after a session – I’m going to start using that technique to create some underpaintings ready for new pastel works over the top, or do some oils on top of the left overs.

  • Oh yes, Terri! You’ve got it exactly! WATCH! You’ll see what I mean… you’ll have to get a plastic container to keep these treasures in until you’re ready, or inspired to bring them to life! They make GREAT backgrounds upon which to build paintings in almost any media. Please let me know how it works for you… it may take a few months of doing this practice to reap the full benefits! Hugs. :)
