August 2012 Juried Invitational Exhibition

This is the final stage of my SoJie 18 Workshop abstract. At this stage, I added the butterflies made out of musical tissue paper and grunge board. It makes for a very dimensional piece… it will also have a thick clear layer of tar gel added so that it appears to have glass covering it even in all its dimensions! (I can’t seem to get a good photograph of this final painting; it has a few minor details added to bring out my little abstract flowers in the lower section of the painting and is very dimensional.)

Here’s how I created this piece:

Note: The final painting will probably be scanned and cropped to fit the size on my 9″ × 12″ scanner when uploaded here on Red Bubble. Unfortunately, my camera doesn’t show the wonderful detail of the layers; I’ll link the photographic image of the full painting to the one I offer here for prints, etc.

Scanned corner of original painting:

This a mixed media painting on 16″ × 20″ gallery wrapped 2" thick canvas using acrylic, watercolor, mica, cheesecloth, tissue paper, and ink.

I’m an abstract-expressionist painter… a mixed media, encaustic, collage artist who uses a non-objective, emotive style of creative expression and visual messaging. I create to survive, to LIVE with more JOY and less pain. ART (plus faith in God) is what sustains me.

I was sure I had commented on this already. Was it a predecessor? Ah shucks. Well I love the stained glass look. It’s a delightful, upbeat work. You simply cannot look at it and not smile!

  • Unfortunately, you were thinking about the free gift abstract that I got from doing this piece called Earth and All Her Grandeur The problem with including that one was that I didn’t have enough WIPs for it to qualify for inclusion. :( I only had the final and one WIP for that one… I was really sad about it because I like it so much better than this one. :( Such is life! :) Thanks so much for EVERYTHING, Frannie! You are a very special woman and an incredible artist! Hugs!

Well sure, when something comes out of something else, then those are predecessor wips, as it turns out. So it could have qualified. Others did the same… kept morphing their works into new works, often somewhere in the middle. But that’s okay. This one is wonderful too, Angela; and I’m pleased to have it in the show! :D
