I wanted to try my hand at mono-printing so I tried making an abstract landscape in honor of my friend Jacque ! She sends me the most gorgeous pictures and I think I’m going to try translating some of them in my style of painting… we’ll see. :)

This mixed media painting is made from acrylic and ink on natural Shell Paper (see below).

Shell Paper is a multi-media paper made with actual shell emulsion, specially designed to accept acrylics, watercolors, inks, pastels, and even oil pastels! The paper comes in colors and natural white; colored papers are made using organic pigments, and natural white adds a beautiful pearlescent effect to transparent washes. Surface is lustrious and semi-absorbant. In fact, the calcium in the shell coating allows for wet media techniques, making Shell Paper the ideal surface for multimedia expressions using a wide array of media from crayon and charcoal to fluid acrylics and inks.

The paper is handmade sheet by sheet, so each piece of Shell Paper is unique and somewhat different than the next.

I’m an abstract-expressionist painter… a mixed media, encaustic, collage artist who uses a non-objective, emotive style of creative expression and visual messaging. I create to survive, to LIVE with more JOY and less pain. ART (plus faith in God) is what sustains me.

This is a beautiful artwork Angela, I love what you have done :-) One of these days I should really try out a few monoprints too, IF I get the time to do everything that seems to be inside my head at the moment!

  • I do them all the time, Constance… I just don’t post very many. Judging from the response to this one, I guess I need to share more monoprints, huh? Thanks so much, my friend! :)

This is one of my all time favorites of your work Sweet Angela!

  • I’m so shocked… I do monoprints all the time, I just seldom upload them. I do monoprints to make backgrounds all the time. Guess I need to share more of my simple stuff, huh? Thanks so much, Heather… so glad you like this piece! :)

would love to see you participate in Abstract workshop dear Angela here is the link

  • LOL Oh Lina… I know I shouldn’t laugh, I’m sorry. This piece was so easy to do that I am truly amazed by the response to it. It’s a monoprint that was done in two passes and then embellished with trees afterwards… not a lot of work relatively speaking. Guess I need to rethink what I do a little bit… :) It’s a crazy time for me right now (preparing for a local event)… and doing a SoJiE workshop scares me to death. Thanks so much for having confidence in me! Hugs!
