I was inspired to create this abstract-realism series of paintings (two 6″ × 12″ gallery wrapped canvases) after watching a movie called Patch Adams .

I’ve always been fascinated with butterflies… they are so very pretty. What really amazes me the most is their metamorphosis from this little crawly thing to a fragile, fluttering display of sheer beauty.

In Wikipedia, it says “…according to some sources, the butterfly was once seen in Japan as the personification of a person’s soul; whether they be living, dying, or already dead. In Chinese culture, two butterflies flying together symbolize love. In some old cultures, butterflies also symbolize rebirth after being inside a cocoon for a period of time. Culturally, butterflies are a popular motif in the visual and literary arts.”

This is a painting made with fluid and heavy body acrylics, watercolor, acrylic dyes, and ink on 6″ × 12″ gallery wrapped canvas.

I’m a mixed-media artist who is equally at home with a wide range of techniques, including printing with commercially available and self-designed stamps, and a multitude of materials, including paint, ink, canvas, clay, paper, fabric, beads, wire, and wood. I’m also a poet, often working intuitively by weaving wisdom and experience into many of my art projects.
