The inspiration for this painting is a poem I wrote by the same name… it was written to honor a woman I really admire:

There was once
a wise lady;
she lived
right next door…
she was wildly
and more.
we saw her
We knew
she would say
something wise
and worth knowing
she was
that way.
There is still
a wise lady;
She lives
right next door
She is lovely
and friendly…
a woman
all still
the knowledge
she shares
and the life
she restores.

This is a mixed media painting made with layers of scrap paper, gesso, Intense pencils, glitter, acrylic, and ink on 9″ × 12″ Canson heavyweight watercolor paper.

acrylic, truth, emotions, emotional, ink, fortitude, honesty, cradle, wood, watercolor, hope, trust, poetry, woman, friend, faith, happiness, jubilation, joy, joyful, reflections, understanding, vibrant, abstract, african american art, sunny day, color, colorful, art therapy, grief therapy, survivor, creative, creativity, inspiration, sistah, wisdom, wise lady

I’m an abstract-expressionist painter… a mixed media, encaustic, collage artist who uses a non-objective, emotive style of creative expression and visual messaging. I create to survive, to LIVE with more JOY and less pain. ART (plus faith in God) is what sustains me.

    Beautiful! Hope you send this to “Collage”;-)

  • Hey Lady, thanks so much! Unfortunately, this one isn’t really a collage. The background was done more with gesso that I drew into and printed objects into before it dried; then I drew my faceless lady on top of it just before painting the whole piece. :)
