2012 Studio Play - Hand Painted Book Covers by

This collage shows about half of the book covers I’ve painted these past few months. The covers are resting on two WIP paintings… Since my art studio has stretched beyond Josh’s old bedroom (and spilled over into the entire apartment), I have sections of the apartment for certain types of work. My book/journal covers are painted in the kitchen and left to dry in the living room; this Studio Play Collage shows the narrow Wisdom Books (works-in-progress) I will make the rest of the summer for a show in September.

Eventually, I hope to have a blog so I can share the tips and tricks I’ve learned along this wonderful art journey.

These books were painted using 14″ × 17″ Vellum Bristol, 9″ × 12″ Shell Paper, 9″ × 12″ Mixed Media Paper, Tissue Paper, Rice Paper, Muslin, and/or Watercolor Paper. I used a mix of acrylic paint, walnut ink, acrylic ink, watercolor, acrylic dyes, and an abundance of collage elements like torn paper, metal object, beads, etc.

I’m an abstract-expressionist painter… a mixed media, encaustic, collage artist who uses a non-objective, emotive style of creative expression and visual messaging. I create to survive, to LIVE with more JOY and less pain. ART (plus faith in God) is what sustains me.

oh wow, these are wonderful, an impressive collection:)

  • Thanks much, Robin… I might do a Studio Play on the flag books next. Painting all the different kinds of paper needed for these books (and future collages) can be quite addictive. :)

WOW!!!! Great work Angela. You must live in a wonderland :)

  • Girl, while it’s FUN for me, it is not good for folks who want to “visit” me! I tend to visit other people at their homes because right now (whether people like it or not… understand it or not) painting everyday is what keeps me enjoying LIFE on the positive side of The Circle. :) So YES, it is like Wonderland to ME! Thanks so much for stopping by and taking time to comment, Maree… you are very special! :)
