I love imparting messages into my art… maybe it’s some deep desire to blend my emotional and methodical selves into one during the creative process… maybe it’s the repressed teacher inside me who seeks to partner with the artist inside me… who knows?
One day, I decided to stop looking for the right pre-printed definition paper to use in my art and make my own. I bought several definition rubber stamps and made a bunch of papers (varying in color, weight , and texture). When I was designing this woman to be used with TAP (Transfer Artist Paper) to make transfers for collage projects, I started with a piece of my own definition paper and painted the final drawing with gesso, acrylic paint, and ink. I used smooth print making paper as a substrate.

This is a mixed media painting made with gesso, ink, and acrylic on Hot Pressed 120 lb watercolor paper.
acrylic, ink, definitions, words, stamping, woman, hope, faith, happiness, jubilation, joy, joyful, reflections, understanding, vibrant, abstract, african american art, sunny day, color, colorful, art therapy, grief therapy, survivor, creative, creativity, inspiration, sistah
I’m a mixed-media artist who is equally at home with a wide range of techniques, including printing with commercially available and self-designed stamps, and a multitude of materials, including paint, ink, canvas, clay, paper, fabric, beads, wire, and wood. I’m also a poet, often working intuitively by weaving wisdom and experience into many of my art projects.
