This piece is dedicated to Isiah C White and the men of Anubis… if they were still around, I’m sure they’d have a sistah in the group too.

  • In the 1970s, there was a group of students at Princeton University whose areas of study were very diverse (e.g., law, psychology, engineering, politics, architecture, and pre-med); the thing that brought them together was Music! They formed a band called Anubis, and as they continued to hone their individual and collective skills, they eventually coined the descriptive phrase “A student of the JAM”. This was their admission that they had not yet realized their musical potential, and that they were still, studying, practicing, listening to and learning from the musicians that had come before. It was also a statement that conveyed great respect and admiration for the jazz musicians that were out there “doing it for real”.

This collage was made using acrylic, rhinestones, glitter, watercolor, various inks, and wax pastels on Canson heavyweight paper.
