This encaustic mixed media collage was my initial wax journey into a field of colorful wild flowers inspired by my late son, Joshua.
As I continued using art as a form of grief therapy, I found a spiritual connection to my son… it was as if he were right there painting along side me… communing with me… whispering his usual encouragement. After making this piece, I used the some of the leftovers to make a companion piece called More Flowers in the Field .
This encaustic mixed media collage was made using painted papers (under-painting), graphite, melted crayons, wax pastels, pigmented wax, beeswax, oil paint, and rinestones on birch panel (10″ × 10″ ).
Encaustic painting is the process of using hot wax as your painting and binding medium. I hand dye my own cloth and make/ paint various paper designs to make my collages.
