I was inspired to create this piece based on the following poem I wrote for Christmas Sharing the year my only child was killed:

2009: 4-EVER Changed

Collapsed but not broken~
resolved to STAND~
with COURAGE; without judgment~
with JOY; less pain.
Remember me!
CELEBRATE my LIFE!
LIVE in LOVE~
Sow seeds of HOPE; reap JOY!

Even today, I remain 4-EVER Changed by the events of 2009… yet I have learned to celebrate LIFE and live in LOVE!

This is a mixed media collage made from dry wall tape, recycled paper backing used to feed cloth through my printer, my own hand painted papers, ink, wax pastels, and oil pastels mounted on watercolor paper for rigidity

I’m an abstract-expressionist painter… a mixed media, encaustic, collage artist who uses a non-objective, emotive style of creative expression and visual messaging. I create to survive, to LIVE with more JOY and less pain. ART (plus faith in God) is what sustains me.

You are remarkable, and I love the way your colors changed somewhat on the right side,
though more muted in texture. I think your attitude is inspiring. xx

  • OMGoodness! PLEASE EXCUSE ME! Marriet, I am so grateful for your comment and am embarrassed to say I’m just seeing this incredible compliment! Thank you so very, very much! :)
