No matter the struggle
or how great the strife
there’s a bit of glow
in every life…
mine is called
JOY!

I created the background of this collage using watercolor crayons and oil paintstixs: it is a mix of painted cloth and paper mounted to wood panel. Then the entire piece was sealed and painted using encaustic meduim and paint.

Encaustic painting is the process of using hot wax as your painting and binding medium. I hand dye my own cloth and make/ paint various paper designs to make my collages.

I’m an abstract-expressionist painter… a mixed media, encaustic, collage artist who uses a non-objective, emotive style of creative expression and visual messaging. I create to survive, to LIVE with more JOY and less pain. ART (plus faith in God) is what sustains me.

Angela~This is so warm and homey. It’s like we could sit down for coffee and it would seem as though we have known each other for years. Fabulous and fave.

  • Thank you, Lenore. One day I know you and I will meet and have that cup of coffee!

Very pure, very intense orange! wonderful! very hard to obtain!

  • Thanks so very much, ivDAnu! Those Shiva iridescent paintstixs are awesome underneath wax… the wax makes them more brilliant and shimmering… then I added some highly pigmented orange wax by R&F and voila! So glad you like this piece… :)

Thanks for the explanations, Angela! I love talking shop! (BTW, never heard about the shiva sticks, can it be buy through Internet?) Your encaustic works are marvellously colored and very decorative. I like them a lot! It also reminds me when, a very young artist myself, I worked with Ceracolor (a kind of encaustic – sticks like pastels with wax as liant. and the smell of melting wax when passing over with the ironing machine!

  • Sorry for the late response… don’t know what happened… I thought I had responded to your questions… Shiva paintstixs can be purchased at Jerry’s Art-Arama and through eBay. Amazon has them too. They are wonderful because unlike other oil sticks, these dry within 24 hours or so. Cretacolor aquastics are awesome but I use them mostly with wax pastels because the latter is far more vibrant. :)

Love the colours and textue. So warm and birght. Encaustic painting seems to be a very exciting technique. Wonderful!

  • Oh, it is! It is! I love it… but having proper ventilation is critical. I’m having some breathing problems because I didn’t understand the dangers and was doing it nearly every day, all day. :(

Thanks so much for your wonderful comments! :)

This is so warm. Lovely. I bet the original is even more delightful.

  • Thanks so much, Rachael! It is so much better in person… I can’t part with it. Someone wanted the original and I couldn’t sell it. Oh well… guess I still create out of passion, not profession. LOL
