Inspired by a Facebook experience:

I really can’t claim to be well versed on Facebook…
I can’t even say I like it all that much…
but today,
I ran across a young lady
whose hair I commented on a few days ago
and was surprised to read
how depressed and down she seems to be.
She’s so pretty… she seems to have a caring nature…
she was so generous in sharing
the hair products she uses
to achieve the naturally curly style she wears…
she was so candid in sharing
her allergic reactions to the new formulas of both Tide and Gain;
I happen to be allergic to them too…
she seemed to feel lost
in the shadows of unhappiness…
I painted the piece after reaching out to try and lift her spirits…
feeling somewhat unsuccessful.

This is a mixed media painting: acrylic, Pan Pastels, and ink on dictionary paper… I’ll likely cut it up for use in a future collage.

journal art, journals, acrylic, unique, abstract art, unusual, singing, music, songs, air, creative, truth, emotions, emotional, ink, fortitude, honesty, watercolor, hope, trust, poetry, friend, faith, happiness, jubilation, joy, joyful, reflections, understanding, vibrant, abstract, african american art, sunny day, color, colorful, art therapy, grief therapy, survivor, creativity, inspiration, sistah, wisdom, woman, thinking

I’m an abstract-expressionist painter… a mixed media, encaustic, collage artist who uses a non-objective, emotive style of creative expression and visual messaging. I create to survive, to LIVE with more JOY and less pain. ART (plus faith in God) is what sustains me.

Mostly because I love pink and brown…but I also see Aura’s around people…Nice piece my dear…

  • You’re right, Susan… I wanted to convey to the young woman (who was the inspiration for this piece) that though there are some dark days in life… there is also the glow of hope that lingers forever near
