The Hotel Mark Twain in Hollywood, California.
This establishment attracts transients and maybe starving-artist types who need a place to crash.
MUCH more representative of Hollywood than the glitz and glamour projected to tourists, the Hotel Mark Twain is mere blocks from the revitalization efforts at the intersection of Hollywood Bl and Highland Ave. The REAL Hollywood is a bit trashy, as tourists find out if they wander too far away from the aforementioned intersection.
There are no movie stars walking along Hollywood Bl. Nobody will be “discovered”. Instead, there are runaways, prostitutes, hustlers, and assorted fringe-dwellers.
Municipal efforts will eventually change this, at quite a cost to the city; but at a much-higher cost to those who arrive here with stars in their eyes and no place but the streets to stay.
All that being said, Hollywood, California, is a unique place in the world, and is likely to remain so. My favorite activity in Hollywood is to people-watch on a Saturday night. One will see things one never imagined. Halloween night on Hollywood Bl. is an unforgettable experience!
