This is Mona, a pure-bred Belgian Shepherd. She is ANOTHER sweetheart who was abandoned on Mt. Baldy by another uncaring jerk. Best estimates have it that she is about 10 months old in this photo. Nobody can figure out why she was abandoned, other than maybe her owner just couldn’t take care of her any longer – sadly not uncommon in the current economy. She is just about the sweetest thing ever. She used to be shy, but that ended in about 10 minutes when I took her in and started to spoil her.
She was a little underweight, but that changed quickly when she was fed good food.
She was afraid of strangers, but that was changed by the constant love and attention she received from me and everyone else she met.
She started out sleeping on the floor, but that changed as soon as she realized she was allowed on the couch. She slept on the bed with Uncle Ron at night, but the spot on the couch became her daytime nap spot.
There is a regular hiker who we know up here on the mountain. Her name is Julie and when she met Mona, it was love at first sight. Being that I cannot really keep a dog at this point in my life, and that Mona was quickly coming into heat, Julie adopted Mona with the promise to have her spayed immediately and to return regularly so we can see Mona.
Those promises have been diligently kept and Mona is now happy, healthy, and even more spoiled than Uncle Ron made her. No easy trick, lemme tell you.
Any and all proceeds from any sales of this photo will be cheerfully used to continue efforts to take care of abandoned animals. There are far too many up in the mountains, but everyone has dogs and are willing to help when they can. Maybe we’ll see a day when this sort of thing doesn’t happen any longer, but I am not confident . . .
as is, right out of the camera, a rarity for me
