Mt. Baldy in Southern California is a paradise for birds. This Acorn Woodpecker is one of HUNDREDS that I would sit and watch. They are clowns and extremely entertaining. I watched a pair of parents teaching their chicks to fly from branch to branch one morning.

THIS one was flitting around the area looking for food. A smart photographer who wants to shoot birds will equip him or her self with a supply of seeds and wild bird food to attract the birds and get your shot.

WHile I was composing the shot, S/He looked right at me, probably wanting another handful of food to be tossed into the clearing. I caught the shot, but I’ll claim no skill. Actually I WILL claim skill! LOL!!

Excellent capture, Ron!! Wow, I’m impressed. How close were you standing?

  • I was about 30 feet away, and the bird was about 10 feet up. 200mm zoom-lenses are awesome! THANKS, Sweetheart!
