The Santa Ana winds are blowing through Southern California. They blow through every year about this time. We got wind warnings on the weather reports, but little can be done when record-setting gusts reach 100 mph (160 kph)! Trees were heavily pruned all over the region, many completely uprooted!
This shot was taken early in the morning in Monrovia, California. This Pine tree has stood for decades in front of the Monrovia Branch of the Los angeles County Library. By the end of the work day, it had been completely removed except for sliced-up sections of the trunk. It leave a noticable hole in the local scenery (there is a large park surrounding the Library building proper) that will not be filled for a long time.
