Artist's Description

A Cunninghams Skink at the Australian Reptile Park in New South Wales, Australia.

From the info sign:

These stocky skinks are inhabitants of the rocky outcrops of south-eastern Australia. They live in family groups, with juveniles from previous years often remaining with their parents for several years before heading off to find a mate. The group even has its own particular toilet spot, which is utilised daily. Their spiny appearance enables them to wedge themselves in a rock crevice and inflate their body, making it practically impossible for a predator to remove them.
