Convenience

A shop owner stays warm inside his little hut of usefulness whilst another man stands in the rain.
This was an freezing cold day in Sydney, and the constant shower made it so much more miserable. I was walking around looking for something to photograph when I saw this man in the hut, he looked very cosy so I tried to get the shot to show the contrast between the outside and in.

Sydney, NSW, Australia.

Great shot, but one question – how did you manage 3 exposures when there looks to be motion in the frame? Or is this from a single raw file?

  • AlteredLens replied

It is indeed 3 exposures, I had wait for a while until there was as little movement as possible.
If you look closely at the blue car on the left you can see some smearing for the HDR processing…

Ah of course, the man standing in the rain was only there for the 1 exposure I presume, as were some of the people in the background. Thanks for explaining. Once again, great shot mate.

    What a shot…..why cant I take HDR like this…lol..?

  • AlteredLens replied

    Just takes practice :)

    My method is:
    1. Tripod mounted
    2. 3 bracketed exposures (-2, 2, +2)
    3. HDR combine in Photomatix
    4. Adjust noise levels Photoshop CS4 with Noiseware Professional
    5. Adjust sharpness in Photoshop
    6. Load photo into Lightroom 2 and adjust colors, tones, and clarity levels.

    All done..

Great Work! Especially to eliminate nearly all movement blurring from the HDR process! When you say adjust sharpness in Photoshop what filter do you use (unsharp mask?) and what are the usual strengths of the settings.
    Cheers,
    Danny

  • AlteredLens replied 25 days ago

Thanks Danny, I use Nik Software Sharpner Pro 3.0, it’s really easy to learn and is one of the best programs out there for sharpness adjusting.
