Entry On Seashells

they stripped and ran for the ocean
but no one wants to but rarely go past the pier
without their feet secure on sand
and their nose in the air
in the sweet scent of automobile exhaust
and fried foods from local restaurants

up late and alone like the sea
the fish in the tank of the hotel lobby
they get only but a peck at the glass
and a big, small world to look out at

people appear singular
their face under stars and dark sky
the moon’s reflection on miles of water
being swallowed by land that could swallow us all
counting our clocks’ ticktocks
and seconds of breath held under swimming pool surfaces
how our purchases are being chased and making of us
the wadded dollar family business
and evening out in the open clouded eye of a naive public

Fabulous write!!! I had this little goldfish…and no matter how much I fed him he remained small inside the glass of inclosure.

  • thank you. i often feel bad for the conditions of our beloved pets, even when taken care of properly, it’s like they end up deprived of their nature or in some cases even punished for it. i have a cat that i love very much, but i often feel conflicted about her sense of freedom and chaos.

Shew! That sucked up my senses!! Brought back some memories of a few thing, and so depictive of the ‘blissful’ ignorance our society lives in, with the freeway of commerce stifling our nature. Lovely stuff!!

  • thank you Sue, i’m very pleased you were able to get so much out of this! i think we’re practically on the same page on this one, and i take a bit of comfort in that. very wonderful to hear from you!
