THE MAGICIAN

Traveling on his way, the Fool first encounters a Magician. Skillful, self-confident, a powerful Magus with the infinite as a halo floating above his head, the Magician mesmerizes the Fool. When asked, the Fool gives over his bundled pack and stick to the Magician. Raising his wand to heaven, pointing his finger to Earth, the Magician calls on all powers; magically, the cloth of the pack unfolds upon the table, revealing its contents. And to the Fool’s eyes it is as if the Magician has created the future with a word. There are all the possibilities laid out, all the directions he can take. The cool, airy Sword of intellect and communication, the fiery Wand of spirituality and ambition, the overflowing Chalice of Love and emotions, the solid Pentacle of work, possessions and body. With these tools, the Fool can create anything, make anything of his life. But here’s the question, did the Magician create the tools, or were they already in the pack? Only the Magician knows – and on this mystery, our eloquent mage refuses to say a word.

At #1, the Magician is the male power of creation, creation by willpower and desire. In that ancient sense, it is the ability to make things so just by speaking them aloud (“And God said ‘Let there be Light!’ and there was Light”).

The Magician is one of my favorites in the deck. For me, the sword above and pointing finger below have some roots in the saying “That which is above is so below and that which is below, is so above.” I believe it is a teaching of Hermes Trismegistus?

Beautiful work and striking resemblance. Noticed it right off. ;) Please let me know when you’ve challenged the “Hermit.”

Absolutely incredible work Al…....those piercing eyes looking right into our souls…. And by the way, I believe that we all have those tools, we just don’t recognize them as such and therefore, aren’t aware of how to utilize them…..the magician is not really a magician at all, just a person like you and I who has learned the secret of light. Your work is so inspirational Al…....I am truly in awe everytime I visit your portfolio!

good to hear from you Michael , how are you doing?i often get asked by people to finish the tarot cards , as many would like to have them , these few tarot inspired art works not meant to be cards , I created them as painting to be hanging on walls, but i think i should think about making the full set , and i know you are THE EMPEROR :-)) , My holiday was great.

The Magicien string fixedely as if containing all the contents of the Fool’s bundle
and no showing them to the mesmerized public.
Just descended from that huge Bizantine vault church,sustained by invisible ropes.
Too manly.
Too clever,
a trickster of words…. remember me the dark side of someone trying to “buy your soul” or expecting you to sell it to him.
And the invisibility of the tools for creating Life remains there, hidden from our view, may be because we do not have enough quietness, consciouness for being aware that…. this apparent world of forms is.. Maya, and that Maya counts not just for shapes ackowledged as that, being our bodies, but feelings, thoughts and needs.
