The relationship between a person and their dog can be the purest and truest friendship that we have the privilege of experiencing in this lifetime.
The consequence of the joy, loyalty, utter unconditional love that our dogs gift us with allows our hearts to blossom in a way that is ongoing and nourishing to our souls.
To those of us who acknowledge this bond to be as real and important as any human bond, understand that our dogs and us are family, in a very real sense.
When our beloved canine friend dies the grief is as powerful and gripping as any pain we feel when a human loved one passes on.
The grieving should be acknowledged as such and not dismissed by others as ‘it was just a pet, get over it’. Yes to some people their dogs are ‘just a pet’, and that’s nice. For the rest of us who cannot help but to love as fiercely as we are loved then our dogs are so much more than that. They are our friends, and truer than most human ones we will meet along the way.
