Karma is 15 and only has a few days left to live.
Celeste has been her mum since Karma was seven weeks old.
If this was her human child Karma’s life would be stretched out before her, but it is not, she is old and sick.
My heart breaks for my cousin because I have been there and the grief is every bit as real, overwhelming and long-lasting as it is when a much loved human family member or friend dies.
She is lucky to be able to share this time with her Karma who has had a good long life… which is the most each of us could want. To be loved and love in return.

A beautiful and emotive portrait, Maree. I had a black kelpie called “Possum” who was my faithful companion for 18 years and our parting was heart breaking moment. Yes, make the most of whatever time you have with your friends, as you know not when that time will come to an end. :)george

  • Yes you never know what’s around the corner. Loved ones can just be snatched from you well before their time. Live LivE LIVE :)

I am torn with emotion…next to my beloved life partner our dogs have shared a hallowed place in our family…believe me I, feel your grief…such a beautiful image…one to treasure

  • Thanks Richard. I’ve been so busy lately and this week there was just so many pressing things. When my cousin asked me to take some photos because her dog didn’t have long left I thought “God, where am I going to find the time?”, plus she lives over an hour away.
Anyhow, how could I say no, I just made the time. I’m so glad I did, it was a privilege to do so really. Was much more important than my ‘pressing things’ :)
