My husband and I were out on the weekend just driving around some bush roads we hadn’t been on before. Both armed with our cameras we kept stopping taking pics of horses, cows, trees, bark, whatever :))
While we taking some pics of this gorgeous old sheep yard… made with hand sawn rails, this car came slowly down the dirt track.
The car stopped and this older couple said hello and asked what we were doing. We told them taking pics of the fence… the man’s face was priceless… he thought we were mad LOL.
Anyhow, they drove on and then a couple minutes later they returned. They told us they lived a few kms down the track and had built a replica settlers hut and we were welcome to take some pics.
We said yes… of course.
Well we ended up spending a couple of amazing hours at the farm of this really kind and immensely interesting couple.
He was a wealth of information, she was buzzing with life.
We loved them.
The hut was… well, what can I say.. I was in my element. To me it was an Aladdin’s cave. He had taken a year to build it true to historical reference.
She had filled it with objects lovingly collected over the years and also some things she already had, like canisters that belonged to her mother.
I told her the old stove was like one my nan and pa used to have and she said she always cooked the roasts in it. She showed me the tin plates they eat off when they dine in the hut and said at night when it was lit by lanterns it was magical… ohhhhhh I bet is is.
The hut was just one thing on the farm that was fascinating. (Please see below for links to other images.)
What a day… and she sent us home with some steaks from their farm grown beef… and we will return with prints for them.
Life is just great sometimes :)
