This is the only shot I planned before leaving Australia for South Africa.
It is the ceiling of the cell that Nelson Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years of captivity in.
I thought about him lying on his mat on the floor and seeing this ceiling for 18 years.
I had a split second to get this shot. 300 people came over to Robben Island (where the prison is) on the ferry and we shuffled around with various guides and every man and his dog took a pic of this cell. I’m so pleased I got this.
