The pomegranate (Punica granatum) is a fruit-bearing shrub growing to between five and eight metres tall. The pomegranate is native to Iran and has been cultivated and naturalized over the whole Mediterranean region since ancient times. The fruit holds great antioxidant values. My memories of childhood in South Africa and Namibia are filled with these wonderful pips.
