We were lucky enough to be placed immediately in front of the Queen just as she alighted from the car.
This was on a recent visit to Reaseheath College in Nantwich, Cheshire.
To have been right beside her as she received a posy from a small child standing next to me gave me a small insight into this most amazing lady. I think of her as ‘the Queen’, a being almost detached from reality but suddenly she was just a most charming and beautiful old lady whose contribution to this country is beyond riches.

I am 71 years young, and getting younger thanks to the new skills I am learning from the wonderful red bubble community. I came here as a competent photographer, no more, and discovered all the joys of manipulation. I now work for hours creating unique images from my photographs and then submit them for the never failing kind comments from the wonderful friends I have met on red bubble.

  • Thank you so much. It is quite a strange feeling when you realize that you are literally a few feet away from the Queen and she is looking straight at you. Do you raise your camera or not? I am so pleased that I did because now I have that moment for posterity. Alma

Great photo Alma, her hats always kill me LOL. cheers.

  • Strange to relate Geoff but being within touching distance (she advanced to literally three feet from me) you see this amazing old lady, perfectly attired for her age, totally dignified with a radiant smile and you have to pinch yourself to believe it is the Queen. To add to that her great age and responsibility – what a woman. Alma

Wonderful capture of the Queen. I remember her driving past me in a old Rolls and waving to me and my family. I was about 5yrs old. But something I have never forgotten

  • Thank you Angel. I think it was the close proximity which floored me on this occasion, suddenly she was a person not just ‘the Queen’.

wow great shot, did she say anything ??

  • Thank you Mike. There was a small girl beside us with a card and flowers and she came over to receive them and talked to her, that was how we came to be so close. At that proximity all the pomp and grandeur were stripped away and she was just a woman, slot her back into her world and she is the Queen. A moment of insight I will never forget. Alma

Isn’t that outfit just the most gorgeous colour?! And the car is absolutely spotless! Do you think all those public duties are a burden…? Great pic Alma!

  • It is the second time I have been up close to her but this time affected me deeply. Forget all the trappings that go with monarchy, she is a woman just like you and me and I felt that she was like a captive bird who had lived all her life bringing something indefinable into our lives. Never to be able to be free from her birthright. I felt very humbled by her devotion to duty embodied in this beautiful little(she is tiny) old lady. The car was made in Crewe of course and I have a wonderful image of Brian and me reflected in the hubcap!! Alma. xx
