Rugby International player Johnny Wilkinson.
Living in Washington in the North East of England I am very near to the Falcons rugby ground, not a rugby follower myself but there are plenty of fans in Washington and the surrounding area including Newcastle upon Tyne who follow this very rough and tumble contact sport.
This work was prompted after someone saw my portrait featuring Alan Shearer and Kevin Keegan. They asked, John, we saw your previous work featuring Newcastle and England Football stars would you do a painting featuring Johnny Wilkinson the famous England player, the result of that question is on this page.
The painting you see is Johnny in his famous pose, prior to kinking the ball. The artwork shows Johnny captured in my normal way of working i.e. plenty of pencil sketches taken from numerous magazine cuttings and some video. Not only did I strive to get the pose correct but I wanted to capture the facial expression. Maybe if you are like me your mind goes into overdrive when thinking about what‘s going through his mind.
Twenty four by thirty six inch painting created with quality oil paint, please write and tell me what you think about this painting, would you like to see it reproduced in a Giclee linen canvas print?
