This stolen, torched & dumped Daihatsu Hijet was just near my place. I hadn’t seen anything like it before in my area and had to get some pics before it was towed away (turns out it was there for about 2 weeks before it was towed!!)
I took a few different ones, but this one was my favourite. I think the train in the background further reinforces a sense of isolation.
I had to set up very quickly to get this shot as the train waits for nobody (well, at least not between stations anyway!), so I setup the tripod, quickly focussed using live view then metered from the road in the foreground. As it turns out the foreground was slightly underexposed, but thanks to Lightroom I was able to fix this without any dramas.
Taken with Canon EOS 40D Camera with 10-22 EF-S lens.

I really love this! Where did you spot this? Love the metallic colours & really love the fact the the colours of the train mirror the abandoned car! Great work :)
Thanks Paula. It was quite close to Westfield Marion Shopping Centre.

looks sweet with the train in the back. good shot
Cheers Martin. I thought the inclusion of the moving Train would definitely enhance the image.

Technically great and visually arresting. Amazing that the tyres didn’t blow and the fire left the bottom bodywork intact!
Thanks David. Yeah I was surprised about the tyres not blowing as well. I don’t know if the fire was put out or if it went out by itself. However – as mentioned above – strangely it was there for around 2 weeks! On a more comedic note, there is now a council-erected sign exactly where the Van was left saying ’Don’t dump your junk’. :D

love the shot and the method used – excellent use of subtle contrast (love the moving background – inspired!)
Thank you berndt2. I’m glad I got there just in time for the train!!
On a side note, behind the train were some distracting elements such as a power pole/powerlines and a couple of tree tops. These have been edited out to improve the composition.
