This is one of my earliest Macro photos. It was taken just after I purchased my Macro lens. I was looking for subjects and found this Grasshopper (it may have been a Locust, I’m not sure). I picked it up and put it on a table. It was very docile and didn’t try to jump away. I already had my camera on a tripod. At this stage I didn’t have an external flash, so the on-board flash was used to add a bit of fill light. Many people have commented that it reminds them of the soldier Grasshoppers in the movie ‘A Bug’s Life’. :)

Cheers Stephen. I reckon he looks a little bit slow in this photo. Slack-jawed Grasshopper maybe? :P
