One of the most profound experiences of my adult life was a mushroom trip in which I ‘met’ (in a purely mental, or ‘transcendental’ manner of speaking) John through a viewing of “Yellow Submarine” and he imparted to me the Zen concept of ‘Uji,’ well before I’d come to discover it again in the works of Dogen, William Blake, and countless others. Man, that was a blast …
