Over the Rainbow

Somewhere Over the Rainbow…..
In this work I started with the vision of a Grass Widow, patiently waiting for her husband to return but somewhere along the line, it came to represent those of us who take a backseat to life.

Fear keeps us rooted in our comfort zones even though we are tired and bored in our surroundings.

We’re afraid if we chase the rainbow the sky will crumble, open up and bad things happen ….so we sit back and watch life play out like a movie on a big screen..

What happens when the movie comes to the end of the reel…are we left with a room full of regrets?

if you are interested in the etymology of a Grass widow see Professor Anatoly Liberman

The last in the Widows series….The Grass Widow
Also in the series;
The Black Widow
The Merry Widow

    This is amazing. Wonderful imagination. You just put us all to think. I just keep on going back and forth to it for it has meaning, but everyone’s concept of it is different. I agree with Peter, I feel I am just behind her, she looks so real. But at the same time, afraid that she will turn her head and might not like what I see. I see that she is well poised and regal. Wonder what that mangled body or toy is in front of her. Well, I guess you could make a story out of this. Love the colors. It is perfection. Only, the guessing, the wondering. Iris

  • Shanina Conway replied

    Thanks a lot for the narrative. Now, that really makes sense.The piece makes more sense to me now and I am able to appreciate it more. You mentoned the confort zone and that sounds so familiar to me. Right now that is the stage I’m in and you have made me think, what will happen when the movie ends. Can’t let that happen. Thanks. Iris

  • Shanina Conway replied

    Thanks Iris…don’t let let anything hold you back..it’s not like we can replay the movie;)
