Hi Shanina, this is great, reminds me a little of Holly Hobby gone Goth (the eyes mainly) and I love those deep earthy firey tones. Excellent work.

This has a certain voodoo feel for me – specifically relating to the loa of Samedi and Ghede, probably wandering more towards Samedi. The skeletal nature of the doll and the plaintitive but somewhat alien visage of the child. Indeed, the doll is reflected in her owner – as the doll that is held is made of wood or plastic, the little girl is a doll made of flesh …

The sepia tone makes me think of the next world, which she is eager to enter or has recently come out of, again reinforcing the death loa effect of my initial impression of the work. Darkly beautiful

Nope, can’t approve of this outfit. Not the rose, eyes, b-stung lip, maryjanes, or white tights with that dress. Call me chauvinist… out of date… or hopelessly inflexible but… NO, this is something I would not allow my son to wear.

On the other hand the doll’s kinda cool.

Again, you have a wonderfully hinky imagination Shanina… And you’ve nailed this whacky-romantic illustration for an update of Edgar Allen Poe… Um, well… it could use a raven. What? Were the out of stock? Bummer.
