Red Bubble

Shanina Conway

Red Bubble

Red Bubble, a homage toJames McNeill Whistler’s Arrangement in Grey and Black.
I don’t know how he did it, I’m seeing spots after staring at black, grey and white for so long.

Although the original was in oils, this is in pastel on a linen paper to give the texture, then a rev in ps.

The gorgeous reference model is courtesy of lisa-jen and James Whistler.

  • Shanina Conway replied

Brian, thank you but after working on this I really don’t know how Whistler managed to keep his sanity and eyesight working in these tones. I hope where ever he is, he thinks it’s acceptable;)

Oh My!!! Great idea… I did this piece slightly in reverse I painted Vermeer’s (my favourite artist) Astronomer in Painted and included a Mac Book Pro a Monitor and a fractal Stargazer in place of his globe… Not sure if the piece is still in my gallery but lovely to see the same kind of idea going on here…
