  • Wayne Cook

    Wayne Cook

    She was slender and taut,
    No amount of imagination
    Could create more grace
    Fill in the missing form,
    To make her stage beautiful,
    But beautiful she was,
    Here on this street,
    Slowly pulling that bow,
    Across the pliant strings,
That thin face carrying the dream of a lifetime,
    The music of her soul,
It merely leaked out in her violin,
As if she was making the orchestra,
    Not the lonely instrument,
Held to her thin, chilled breast.
Each note wept of unrequited love,
    Each tremolo of unfinished dreams,
Each worn spot of the ebony and fingering,
    A longed for performance
    She stood, mute,
While the instrument spoke, Street Angel
