Once in a while I watch jaded illusions come spilling out the cracks of your shattered hope.
I stand there with spackle.
I remain there waiting.
I pray for a break in the deluge.
Once in a while a pause allows me to patch up a crack here, a hole there, then where it’s not broken, just for good measure.
I won’t interject.
I know you don’t care.
My affirmations won’t unmake all your sad convictions.
Once in a while your thoughts are dormant, held in by your lack of desire to force them upon me.
But I know they are there.
I can feel they are there.
For a moment you just don’t want to hurt me.
Once in a while I lose it and scream out to you, spackle flying everywhere and sense and reason out the window.
LET THEM COME!
Don’t keep them secret.
Don’t protect me by holding back, let them come.
Once in a while I ask for your jaded illusions and sad convictions because I hope, that if I keep asking, one day they’ll all be gone.
Empty you will be,
Until me.
My love will fill you, push to the walls of your hope after I’ve fixed their cracks with my spackle.
And then I remember.
Your shattered hope is not mine to fix.
Your jaded illusions are not a deluge.
Your sad convictions are a wall.
Keeping love out.
No need for spackle.

“Once in a while I watch jaded illusions come spilling out the cracks of your shattered hope.” The opening line really made this piece. I like the imagery and overall message.
“Once in a while I lose it and scream out to you, plaster flying everywhere and sense and reason out the window.” 2nd favorite line
good stuff!

Nice work! You’ve certainly got a knack for poetry!
Dave, thanks! This was one of those quick ones… the first line sparked the rest so I’m glad you liked it :) -A
Bob – thank you so much. I never thought I’d hear anyone say that!
Miss Purcell,
Wonderful job! I would definitely have to agree with Robertlfox, you have that “It” factor for poetry and words. Wonderfully done.

Hahaha! I was trying to think of it ALL day. Initially, I had the word plaster in here… and after I’d given up trying to think of the word I actually wanted, my co-worker, out of nowhere, says “I have to spackle my walls tonight.” I was like “SPACKLE! THAT’S IT!” So you can give my coworker credit for that one ;) Thanks for reading Nicole!! xo, A
This reminds of someone I know. You convey that wrenching want-to-fix-you emotion, so well. Wonderful piece..:)
goodness this is excellent, i have been there & really felt every word, can so relate to ‘emptying out’.
need to take a breath after that one!
