Named after a certain song. Going through my archives I stumbled upon this photo from September 2010. I remember this evening so well, it was probably some of the roughest conditions I have taken photos in. Ideally I wanted to position myself around the west side of the Schanck but the wind blowing seaspray towards me was that strong that it would have been impossible to get a clear shot. Standing out in the open also made it extremely hard to keep the tripod still and I didn’t want to risk losing a few dollars worth of camera equipment!

Taken at Cape Schanck, part of the Mornington Peninsula National Park in Victoria, Australia

Settings

  1. Canon 5D mk II, 17-40L mm FL: 17 mm
  2. 2 seconds @ f8, ISO 100
  3. Lee 0.9 Hard ND Graduated Filter
  4. Adobe Lightroom 3, Adobe Photoshop CS4

Photography for me is an outlet, a way I can express myself through images rather than words. I look at the subjects I shoot from every possible angle that I can imagine and with the right light, the vision in my head becomes a reality. My passion for it began after high school and over the past several years it has become my release, my way of seeing from a different perspective..

Gorgeous work Alistair! Really love the pastels in the sky against the dark tones of the rocks and the misty, rough water pouring over it :)

  • Thanks Shelley, glad you like it. Sure was rough

Really nice image Alistair. The two second exposure looks great on the water.
I envy you the lee filters, but where the hell do you get these. I have been trying for about a month and they are just not available.
