Nature from above by Alistair Wilson

Small (15.5" x 23.2")

With this image I wanted to give the impression of the viewer feeling like they were part of the landscape, to do so I had to climb up a tree and it wasn’t the easiest tree to climb either with no footholds until a meter or two up! Lucky a mate was there with me to pass up the camera to me and then the challenge began of trying to get a long exposure with no real support for the tripod except for pushing it against myself and the side of the tree. It was quite difficult to compose without getting a crooked shot or getting my knee in the bottom of the image! I was pretty happy with how this one came out considering the difficulties in taking it, almost killed a pair of jeans too! I would have liked to have the polariser on but it was hard to hold steady for 3 seconds let alone 15 or 20. It was probably actually harder getting down the tree than it was climbing up and I pulled up sore the next morning, it seemed so much easier as a kid?

Photography for me is an outlet, a way I can express myself through images rather than words. I look at the subjects I shoot from every possible angle that I can imagine and with the right light, the vision in my head becomes a reality. My passion for it began after high school and over the past several years it has become my release, my way of seeing from a different perspective..

My favourite creek to photograph. So many spots along here to take photos. You have captured it really well.

  • Thanks Lindsay, this was my first visit to the creek and I loved it. Can’t wait until they re-open the beeches up at Marysville, I thought I better do the right thing and wait til they re-open it rather than sneak in
