Taken on a freezing night near Marysville, Victoria in the Yarra Ranges. Needed a few things to go my way to get this shot, first was a clear night which eventually happened. Secondly I had to wait long enough for the moon to rise over the hills to left of the picture so the foreground could be illuminated. As Maroondah Highway is in the distance a heavy traffic flow could have damaged the image as well but luckily it’s quiet this time of year! Also by the end of taking the images it was starting to become real foggy and moisture on the lens was becoming a problem for me!

Nice one. Regarding the fogging on the lens, I’ve heard that wrapping it in something warm(a Len’s Jumper…) can help reduce this.
Thanks mate, might have to try it next time

This is a very unique photo :) It was worth your wait!
Thanks :) took more than a couple of ventures out of the house to get a clear night and the right amount of light

Great work Alistair.
The stars over Marysville move amazingly far in 30 seconds!
………or is this multiple 30 sec exposures blended together? :-)
haha sorry mate might have to adjust the description! was around 36 shots so 18 minutes or so

Awesome capture. Ive tried this several times myself unsuccessfully and am very envious. Well done.
Thanks Lucas, can be very tricky sometimes. I’ve definitely been out a few times where shots haven’t worked well
