On The Edge Of No Return
Whilst standing up here this evening I had to ask myself.. is this the safe thing to do? But then I thought, if we never took risks then that would be a boring way to live. This one was taken from the same spot as a couple of my other Portsea images but at a different time and day.
My original intention was to get a good sunset around the eastern side of the London Bridge but the tide was a lot higher than I expected so I climbed back up to this spot instead and it was definitely worth it :)
I had to put the ISO up a fair bit to keep the exposure time down as it was almost dark. Luckily I can get away with it with this camera, the picture would be a lot grainier had I used my 40D.
The London Bridge is located on the ocean side of Portsea in the Mornington Peninsula National Park, Victoria, Australia. It’s only a short walk down to this spot from the car park.

There are calculated risks in everything we do Alistair…and this is beautiful. Beautifully dynamic and moody with great rock detail. Well done.
Alistair Wilson replied
Thanks Sals, I had a hard time getting a good exposure with the water coming through the gap in the rocks without it being too high at the bottom of the pic, I liked this one the most :)
Stuart Chapman
Lovely water movement Alistair, there’s so much of it too that it really pulls the eye around the image nicely. and that’s a great sky hanging over the top to finish it off.
Alistair Wilson replied
Thanks Stuart, appreciate the comment mate
Donovan wilson
Top shot Alistair as you know it can be a risk just staying at home..
Alistair Wilson replied
Thanks Donovan, that is also true.. I hope everything is well up Marysville way. I’ve only been up once since we lost our place but am looking forward to getting up there a bit more often soon to get some closure

Those storm clouds look menacing and the ocean plenty mean, great shot Alistair!!
Alistair Wilson replied
Thanks John, always appreciate you dropping by! It sure was mean tonight, sounded like gun shots when the waves hit the rocks

Thanks Simone! Think I’m becoming to love this spot, there’s still a few shots I haven’t managed to get yet. There’s so many other spots on the other side of the bay that I have to get to one day as well

Terrific capture Alistair, its a wonderful stretch of coastline out the back of Portsea. Interested to note your kit….have just updated mine to match, and loving it.
Alistair Wilson replied
Thanks mate, yeah all the kit listed is my mums apart from the filters! i wish i had a 5d and 17-40L although i do get to borrow it a lot :) i would love a go at a new 5D just find the old 5D screen a bit small and the colour seems quite false too but i dunno :S
