September never seems to sleep
Taunting me with sweet pastel blooms
September has a secret that she keeps
This is the last September
That I’ll cry for you
This is the last September
That I’ll mourn for you
You made your choice
I paid the price
The pain was dearly bought
My heart clenched in ice
Sunshine is burning once again
So many years he’s hid his face
Melting away glacial walls
There is a time, there is a place
I am ready to leave the grief behind
Though it’s been so hard to say goodbye
I am ready to greet September
Once more with a smile
This is the last September
That I’ll let myself be torn down
This is the last September
That my tears will drench the ground

it took me years to come to that place of letting go – well done – it is hard when people choose to leave …
Alison Pearce replied
Thank you Helen. It has been several years, there comes a time when you have to put the grief somewhere safe and carry on. We now have a grandchild who is the inspiration for the sunshine coming back out :)

One of my favourite books is called The Last September…this is compelling emotional stuff Alison…your imagination is boundless…
Alison Pearce replied
Thank you Janis. This is one of very few that are actually based on reality. They are the toughest to write, but very carthartic

Beautiful writing, Alison, and it moved me this guy. Kind of feel like you sort of wrote it for me at the period I’m in my life now. Going through a really ugly break-up thing, and this is soothing even for me. Thanks, Alison. It made me feel better.
Alison Pearce replied
Thank you John :)

I was hoping it wasn’t….
Alison Pearce replied
Thank you Janis :) But everything is a learning experience and as a writer, I hope that I can reach out and touch someone else in the same pain. I have already heard from someone who is now inspired to write about their experience. To me, that is what it is all about.

September means a beginning of something most of the time; yet many times it’s the end of something else. It’s perfect for a poem, especially one like yours:)

Thank you so much :)
