Kept for a lifetime in the basement
There lays a secret, never told
A tragic tale of life and forbidden love
Memories hidden from judgmental eyes
Never forgotten nor forgiven
Of sacrifices made and innocence lost
Happiness found then torn away
On a chain, the key is kept
Like the chains that bind her down
The key to her bitter memories
That she can neither face nor place aside
Old photographs and love letters
And a tiny identity bracelet
Of the man she loved, the child she lost
Ripped from her by ignorance and injustice
Lies told in bitterness
Truth too painful to relate
Of how her babe was torn from her arms
Because of the colour of his skin
A memory etched forevermore
Burned into the retina’s of her eyes
Reminder of the price paid for the sin
Of following her heart

Well placed words coming together to tell a story and allowing the secrets to stay hidden, yet letting us experience those same feelings. This work is B_R_I_L_L_I_A_N_T_!

Powerful tale of life back when women didn’t have the same choices they have today. In some parts of the world this has changed, in others woman are still forced to live with rules that were made when they had no voice.

This is a very well spoken piece. I would say that there are few places where a line break or period need to be added in order to keep the flow consistent for the reader. There also one or two lines at the beginnings of verses which are completely divorced from the flow of the piece. I do not know if this was intentional or not. Figured I’d point it out.
just my thoughts take them as suchAlison Pearce replied
Thank you for your comment :) Much appreciated

good piece…..it is always good to write it how you feel….gaps you do not need to worry about…you have to write how you feel and what is important to you…..it’s more than fine
