It starts with a scifi seed………………
First the seed is sown, it may come from a book, a movie, a passing thought, it takes a step forward into the ether of space/time.
Sometimes it whithers and dies, other times it hangs around waitng for the essence that will let it take root.
Once it takes root and begins to grow in the imagination, the mind panels open and there is an outpouring of thoughts, so many that it is often overwhelming, so one as to channel these ideas.
Some must be kept in locked rooms until needed, still, they are all part of the story, the tale takes form first, although the mind sees the image, but only as through a mist or veil, when the story draws to its end ( most of my stories just never end ) then the image begins its fleshing out.
At this point the canvas (computer) comes into play, so many things go into the process, how many different software progams will be used, it may involve photos, building ships, robots, cities, moons, planets, nebula, mountains, plains, seas, shadow, reflection.
All this just to create an image, how many hours or days or as in one case, years.
Once started it consumes time, although for me as an artist, time stands still, there are an infinite number of possible worlds, which one to choose, it as to be the perfect creation for whatever tale my brain is spinning.
Now the mind concentrates on the software, I don’t even want to think how many decades it as taken to master these programs…………….. so I won’t.
My landscape program gives me infinite worlds within a world that is 3 times the size of Earth, the palette I work on the monitor is 2" X 2" but from corner to corner it is 30,000 Kilometers.
I know, it boggles the mind just thinking about it, so I try not to.
So now I have to think of the landscape I must build, if I want cities I usually go into my files and search through thousands of folders, picking a bit here , a bit there, until I’ve acheived my purpose, whatever that may be.
The real problem here is sometimes a stray though or idea is floating around, almost like a dust mote!.
So I am ever kept aware, otherwise it attaches itself, when that happens……I’m lost.
The journey to perfection is not easy, if a landscape is needed then its just a simple matter of flying across an area 3 times the size of Earth, looking for that one scene that jumps out and grabs you……simple…..well maybe not!!
Its a long drawn out process, but hey’ its fun, and its what I do to reach perfection,
and perfection for me is that one incredible moment when someone leaves a constructive comment, for perfection is not the end product, perfection is the journey.
