A combination of Sumi & Computer the Ancient and the Modern.

The base of this image is Suminagashi, known in the west as Sumi ( Ancient ).
It is Japanese water painting using inks, natural minerals, stylus, brushes
and I use a hand fan to move the medium.
Sometimes if there is a nice wind blowing in the window, then nature lends a hand.

The willow leaves are from Japanese hand painted papers, tree itself is from one of my early hand made marbled papers. The background of mountains and water is my sumi work.
I took it into Photoshop and played around with it in layers. (Modern)

Japanese Paper Marbling ( Suminagashi )

One floats ink on unthickened water and then urges the spots of color into concentric bands using a spreading agent.
The bands of color thus made are teased into images using either a hair stylus, hand held fan or even a breath of air.
Finally the image is transfered onto absorbant rice paper or silk and allowed to dry.

Sumi is ideal for artists who have little time but wish to produce decorated papers or silk.*
