Hey Jude by Alice McMahon

Hey Jude by

A co-operative diptych drawing, I did the drawing, my daughter did the photography and photo editing and composition.

And any time you feel the pain, hey, Jude, refrain
Don’t carry the world upon your shoulders
Well don’t you know that its a fool who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder

Charcoal on Stonehenge paper, 14 × 24″ You must use glazes of charcoal to build up the rich darks and textures on this paper – but the tough but soft surface takes the manipulation well.

About Alice McMahon

I specialize in figurative charcoal drawing. My work was recently shown and sold at the Saatchi Gallery in London. Current works delve into the realm of symbolism and magic realism.
All of my drawings are meant to be noble representations of individual subjects, and also bring together a wealth of influences, recognition of art history and myth and a contemporary attitude to create images that are of the moment, but hopefully will also remain relevant in the future.

You are just too good! Your daughters composition is excellent!

  • Thanks! My daughter started the drawing but got frustrated with the charcoal medium. I haven’t done charcoal on paper, but thought I’d give it a try. The concept was just too good to discard. My next few works will be the same medium, demanding but great contrast in the end.

Great work. I love this feeling. Very somber, yet holds my attention. I also love the fact that it was a “family” project, kind of goes right along with the story in the picture.
