Commissioned portrait of 2 brothers and their bartender at the Guinness Anniversary celebration in Dublin, Ireland. 14 × 11″ Pen & ink with Guinness Stout wash on Crescent illustration board.
I never thought about a Guinness wash. I am often drinking Guinness while I am drawing and sometimes I spill a little…teehee! This is great, I am sure they loved it!
Haha – that’s how I happened to try it, I spilled a bit while sketching Irish musicians in a pub. I doodled the splat into a little dancing man – voila! It is similar to painting with coffee or tea, but the sugars i the stout can become shiny if you concentrate it, which I like to do for the darker washes. I’ve done quite a few of these, most of them are posted here. Thanks MS!

Wow! So quick! Thank you very much sig! It’s always a fun project to paint with the stout, but my technical pens were acting up on me – yeek!
