Holly Ringland
ohhhhhhh alice.
this is absolutely delicious.
the textures are palpable… the light so warm… i feel as though i’ve stumbled into a room filled with the most languid luxurious energy.
and the butterfly… perfect. you don’t mind if i borrow this in my daydreams do you? so beautiful.
Alice McMahon ... replied
Ha! Holly, I do wish I had your way with words. Thanks for them, just a small scrap of mylar here though. I’m working on a larger and more complicated piece at the moment, and this one was a bit more “restful” to work on on a snowy Sunday. A little like an afternoon nap on my favorite chaise. :)
Tahnja
Love the above narrative you’ve given, I can totally relate to that.

and the black frame fits it nicely
i so love your tech.and quality of work….
Alice McMahon ... replied
I can see you are always very conscious of composition, and paying off nicely with your latest work. These smaller charcoal works are a little tricky to pull off quality wise. Kind of like working in miniature I guess. Thanks colorblind.

April Cowan
This is lovely. your soft tones (do you use willow charcoal?) create a truly romantic vision into the past, and the whole thing – composition, subject matter, density – all create the illusion of a daydream. wonderful
Alice McMahon ... replied
:) daydream, that’s sweet! It’s interesting to look back at my work through someone else’s interpretation. Thanks for that!
Alice McMahon ... replied
btw – no, I use mainly compressed charcoal, and for works of this scale, charcoal pencils. The Mylar film gives the works a soft finish.
