Wonderful self-portrait. Your comment on the black butterfly brought back something from my own experience that I need to ponder on (and perhaps write about). Whilst on a long (700km) journey recently, late afternoon, a rainbow appeared … it emerged from the front bonnet of the car and circled round the drivers seat to re-enter the car at the rear passenger door. It was amazing. And no … I was not on anything.

You never cease to amaze me with your talent!! While this piece is deeply personal, I think it’s genius lies in its universal appeal. Congratulations.

I always love your paintings and this one in particular seems so beautifully real that it feels almost tempting…

BTW of butterflies, I had a somewhat similar experience this summer with a monarch butterfly in my backyard: when I saw it, I didn’t have the camera with me, I was just about to not even try to go and get it, thinking that it won’t be there when I return. But in my mind, I told the butterfly to wait there for me, I went into the house, the camera had the battery on charge, so it took much longer to have it ready, went outside having the “premonition” of disappointment, and yet the monarch did not even move from that leaf. I started taking pictures, and after a short while it flew a few times in small circles and returned in almost the same spot and as soon as I said to myself I have taken enough pictures, it flew away and did not return. Coincidence? Fluke? This I may never know, but I’d like to think that it was neither, but a kind of strange communication taking place… or just my imagination!

I don’t know how I’ve missed your work until now, but I’m glad I found it. I enjoyed looking through your whole portfolio. You do fantastic work, especially your drawings on mylar drafting film…which I haven’t seen used for a long time! This one is marvelously done and my favorite…I guess…there are so many to like!!!

There is nothing so beautiful as the small of a womans back or the nape of her neck except for the delicate luminescence of the scales on a butterflys wings, you drawing captures such beauty … Pappilon.

Really nice, beautiful model and interesting technique. I have worked on some unusual surfaces, but I hadn’t heard of this method.

Yeah, you know, now that you mention it, that surface could allow for some cool stuff underneath it…what some people will now do with photoshop, I guess. Lately, I have had fun with mixed media, transfers, stuff like that.
